Will the Bill ending Ireland's Triple Lock on overseas Defence Forces deployments be signed into law by December 31, 2026?

Settles Yes if the Defence (Amendment) Bill 2026, which removes the need for a UN mandate before more than 12 Defence Forces personnel are sent overseas, is signed by the President and becomes an Act by 31 December 2026, as shown on oireachtas.ie. Settles No if it is still before the Dáil or Seanad, is referred to the Supreme Court, or is signed after that date. The Government says it wants it enacted this year; every Opposition party opposes it, and a September Irish Times/Ipsos B&A poll found 44% want to keep the Triple Lock and 34% want it gone.

Closes 30 Nov 2026. Settled by Houses of the Oireachtas: Bills and Acts.
